NYS Homes and Community Renewal

The City of Rensselaer was awarded $122,000 from the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) as part of a RESTORE grant to assist home repairs for the elderly.  
The Residential Emergency Services to offer (Home) repairs to the Elderly (RESTORE) program provides financial resources to assist senior citizen homeowners with the cost of addressing emergencies and code violations that pose a threat to their health and safety or affect the livability of their home. Assistance for the cost of these critical repairs will enable seniors to continue to live independently in their homes. 


  1. 100% median income ($63,000-this number increases with additional occupants),

  2. 60 years or older

  3. Owner occupied primary residence

  4. Assisted repairs shall not exceed $10,000

NYS Homes and Community Renewal

The City of Rensselaer has been awarded $420,000 from the New York Housing Trust Fund as a grant to create the Proud Neighborhood Initiative aimed to help 14 low and moderate income home owners make substantial repairs to their single-family homes. Assistance will be targeted to the most vulnerable home owners including frail, elderly and disabled owners and those least able to afford health and safety, mechanical and structural home improvements including mobility and accessibility upgrades.


  1. 60% median income ($40,700-this number increases with additional occupants)

  2. Single family owner occupied primary residence

  3. Additional consideration given to persons who are frail and/or elderly and/or persons with a physical disability/Traumatic Brain Injury.

  4. Approximately $24,500/home (NOT YET APPROVED BY HOUSING TRUST FUND - waiting for contract)

Status: ONLY accepting applications at this time, no work can begin until executed contract process is complete and we have been granted the authority to receive the funding-program anticipated to begin Late August early September 2020
